Boy Scouts of America requires that all boys,  as well as all registered adults, participating in troop activities have filled out a current medical form that is on file with the troop. Note that "troop activities" is not just camping, but also includes Eagle projects, Duke Football games etc.

Ray Bowman has agreed to manage the medical records for the troop, but he needs your help to keep the records up to date. Note that there is a new form that BSA is using (available on the Troop website), and that new rules are in effect regarding how often adults need to update their forms. This was a topic of some discussion at the Troop Committee Meeting last night.

The bottom line is this:

1)    All Scouts MUST have a current medical form (<1yr old) to participate in Troop Activities. This needs to be done immediately.  We will be checking this for all those going on the next campout.

2)    All registered Adults MUST also have current (<1yr old) forms.  After Jan 1, 2010, registered adults who do not have up to date forms will not be allowed to participate in Troop Activities.

3)    The troop also needs copies of insurance cards

Many forms are already updated, since they had to be in place to attend summercamp, and many others will need to have them for Philmont/Seabase.

The thought of not allowing a scout or adult to participate in Troop Activities, to say the least, distasteful. However, if the troop is out of compliance on this issue, it will invalidate our insurance through BSA and potentially exposes the troop to significant liability. For those who need to update forms, Please make every effort to do so as soon as possible and this will not become an issue.

Thanks for your understanding of the importance of this issue and your cooperation in ensuring that the Troop is in compliance.

Best

Troop Committee Chairman
