We will have our normal troop meeting tomorrow night starting at 7:00pm. There are two important items that we need to cover at tomorrow meeting. The first is to get more people signed up to help with the football game this weekend against Elon. We currently only have 14 people signed up to help. We need 25 to fully staff the event. This is an opportunity for the scouts to earn money to help defray the cost of the things that the troop does through out the year. If you are going to be in town this weekend, please signup to help at the football game. We will be handing out passes on Tuesday night.
The second piece of business we need to accomplish is to know who is going camping on 9/10 - 12. We need to know tomorrow night so that menus can be planned and food can be bought before next weeks meeting. So on Tuesday I need to know what scouts and adults are coming camping.
Attached is the scout calendar for the coming year. The Court of Honor has been moved to September 21 so it will not interfere with the Jordan High Open House.
I need to get some adult volunteers to teach the following merit badges this fall. We currently have seven nights between 9/14 and 12/7 that we will be teaching merit badges. Please consider helping out the troop with this important program.
- Citizenship in the Community
- Family Life
- Personal Management
- Emergency Prep
If you have already earned the required merit badges above, we will also be offering the following
- Law (Mrs. Daniels)
- Radio (Mr. Lamb)
Other merit badges may be offered depending on interest (if you already have the required ones being offered).
I have gotten some response from adults regarding the Northern Tier canoe trip for this summer. If you might be interested in this opportunity and you have not let me know, please contact me. More information will be coming out on this soon.

Tonight will be out first regularly scheduled troop meeting for this school year. As a reminder, the troop meeting start at 7:00 and will conclude at 8:15.
There will be a committee meeting on Thursday 8/26 starting at 7:00pm. We will meet at Epworth, probably in the fellowship hall.
The PLC met this past weekend and started putting some finishing touches on the yearly calendar. I will be sending out a copy of that (at least the first draft) probably Friday after the committee has a chance to discuss the calendar. I have put a list of activities at the bottom of this email so you have some idea of what we are up to for the next couple of months. As you can see, there is already a conflict on the weekend of 9/11. When the committee meets, these types of issues will be smoothed out.
We are doing the Coke sales again this year at the Duke football games. We are currently planning on running four of the games. There will be a signup sheet at tonights meeting for those interested in helping out. This provides the scouts a way to earn money for the different scouting activities that they do throughout the year. The football games that we are working this year are 9/4 (Elon), 10/16 (Miami), 11/6 (Virgina), and 11/27 (UNC).

I hope everyone is having a good summer and staying cool with the hot weather we have been having. It has been a really busy summer. We have sent scouts to summer camp, Seabase, and we currently have a crew at Philmont.
Our scouting year is about to get underway. The first meeting will be on 8/24 starting at 7:00pm. There will be a committee meeting on 8/26 at 7:00pm.
The Duke football schedule is out. We will be working at least four of the seven home games this year. We are still working out the particulars with the Riverside band. The first game will be on September 4th against Elon. The next game will either be on the 18th (Alabama) or the 25th (Army). You will be able to sign up for the games you would like to work at the first meeting. I will be sending out additional information about the football games as it becomes available.
The first troop event will be a 20 mile hike on September 11th. This is currently tentatively scheduled based on the availability of leaders and scout interest. This is for anyone interested, but especially for those that want to complete the Hiking merit badge. In October, the troop will be attending the 100 Years of Scouting Council Camporee at camps Durant and Reeves. This will be the weekend of October 8 - 10. I will need to know on September 7th what scouts and adults are going to be attending the camporee.
There will be a PLC meeting with the new Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, and Patrol Leaders at my house on August 21st. We will be starting the meeting at 4:30 and should be done by 7:30. Dinner will be provided. We have a lot to do in order to get the scout year off to a good start. Please let me know if you cannot attend.
For those of you who were tapped out for the Order of Arrow in April and did not attend the Induction weekend in May, you have one more chance to go through your Ordeal. Fall Inductions for the OA will be on September 17 - 19. If you don't go through the Orderal in the Fall, then you will have to stand for election again, if you choose to.
That's it for now. I'm looking forward to a great scouting year!
